Beef Empanadas - Recipe from Chile

The empanada is a traditional turnover pie. The variations are as follows: de horno-baked, frito-fried, de
pino-with a meat and onion filling, de queso-cheese, de mariscos-seafood. This is a Chilean empanda recipe.
You can learn to make the empanada dough and the filling.

Ingredients:

Empanda dough:

• 3 Cups all-purpose flour
• 1 Teaspooon Baking powder
• 1 Teaspoon of salt
• 1/4 Cup Lard or shortening
• Milk, water or broth 1/2 to 3/4 cup, as needed

Filling:

• 2-3 Tablespoons of oil
• I minced onion
• 2-3 clove minced garlic
• 1 Pound of ground beef
• 1 Tablespoon of Paprika
• 1 Teaspoon of Cumin seed
• 1 Teaspoon of Oregano
• 1 cup of water, or vegetable stock
• 1 Tablespoon of Flour
• 1/2 Cup raisins
• 1/4 Cup Black or Green pitted Olives, chopped



Preparation:

Mix flour, baking powder and salt together in a large bowl. Rub the lard or shortening into the flour with your fingers to break it up into small pieces. If oil, stir it in.
Stir in just enough milk, water or broth to form a kneadable ball. Remove it to a floured board and knead for about 5-10 minutes until it is silky smooth. Add a little flourto make less sticky. Cover it with a towel or bowl and let it rest at least 30 minutes.
Heat the oil in a saute pan over medium flame. Saute the onions until they turn translucent. Add the garlic, paprika, cumin and oregano and sautÈ 1-2 minutes more. Add the ground beef, salt and pepper and saute, breaking up the beef until it is cooked through.
Stir in the water or stock, raisins and olives and bring to a simmer. Sprinkle flour over all and stir in well. Simmer for another 5-8 minutes till thickened. Adjust seasoning, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Preheat your oven to 375∞F. Cut the dough into 12 equal portions. Lightly flour a work surface and roll each portion into a 6- to 8-inch round. Add about 1/4 cup of filling to the center of the pastry round, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Wet the edges with a finger dipped in water, fold over into a half moon and seal the edges with the tines of a fork or by rolling them up into a scalloped edge. Lay out on a baking sheet.
Brush tops with an beaten egg whites. Bake for 30-40 minutes till browned on top.

Gingerbread Cookies - Christmas Cookies

Gingerbread cookie men are a Christmas tradition. Shape the dough into lots of different shapes and sizes. You can also string them up as ornaments. Remember to poke holes in the cookies before baking. Kids will enjoy preparing and decorating this cookie recipe.

Ingredients:
• 3/4 Cup butter, at room temperature
• 3/4 Cup sugar
• 3/4 Cup molasses
• 3 1/4 Cups flour
• 1 Teaspoon baking soda
• 2 Teaspoons ground ginger
• 1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/2 Teaspoon ground nutmeg



Preparation:

In a bowl, mix at medium speed, beat butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in molasses. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir into butter mixture, blend well.

Divide dough in half. Flatten each half into a 1-inch-thick disk. Wrap each half and freeze until firm, about 1 hour.

Roll dough, a portion at a time, to 1/4 inch thick. With floured cutters, cut dough into people shapes. With a wide spatula or transfer cookies to buttered 12- by 15-inch baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Repeat rolling and cutting with scraps.

Bake cookies at 300° degrees until edges are brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Let stand on sheets for abou t 5 minutes to firm up, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

Powdered sugar icing: If it's too thick, add a few drops of water; if it's too thin, gradually add more powdered sugar. To tint, add food coloring a few drops at a time.

Piping: In a bowl, stir 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 1/2 tablespoons water until smooth. Tint with food coloring. Spoon into a pastry bag fitted with a 1/8-inch tip or a heavy 1-quart zip-lock plastic bag. Seal plastic bag and squeeze icing into a corner; cut a tiny opening at corner of bag to squeeze icing out. Let cookies stand for 5 minutes until icing is firm. Makes 2 dozen cookies.

Christmas Sugar Cookie recipe

Sugar cookies are prefect for sharing and gifting for Christmas. You can make the dough ahead of time and remove it from your freezer when you are ready to bake. This is an easy cookie recipe, perfect for kids to prepare. Get out colorful sugar crystals and icing to decorate.

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 Cups butter, softened
• 2 Cups sugar
• 4 eggs
• 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
• 5 Cups all-purpose flour
• 2 Teaspoons baking powder
• 1 Teaspoon salt

Preparation:

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter, and sprinke with red, green and white sugar crystals. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Pumpkin Pie -Sugar-Free recipe

This is a Thanksgving Day favorite dessert recipe perfect for those watching their sugar intake. Perfect for diabetics and dieters. Make this a healthier recipe by using egg whites, and using a whole grain pie shell.

Ingredients:


• 1 deep dish pie shell
• 3 large eggs, Beaten ( or 1 whole, and 2 egg whites)
• 1 (15 ounce) can solid-pack pumpkin
• 1 (12 ounce) can Low-Fat evaporated milk
• 1 Cup Splenda sugar substitute
• 2 Teaspoons pumpkin pie spice


Preparation:

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Allow pie crust to thaw at
room temperature for 15 minutes.

Combine eggs, pumpkin, evaporated milk, Splenda, and pumpkin pie spice in a large bowl using an electric mixer
on medium speed for about a 1 minute.

Pour this pumpkin mixture into the thawed pie shell.
Bake pie on center oven rack for about 35-40 minutes
or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool before cutting into 8 servings.
Garnish with Low-fat Whipped cream.

Garlic Green Beans

This garlic green recipe will be a new addition to your Thanksgiving dinner, instead of the usual green bean casserole. Green bean are loaded with vitamin A, C, and fiber. They also have many essential vitamins including thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin K. This recipe will make a great side dish to a holiday dinner. This recipe requires garlic. The easiest way to prepare the garlic is, first pull apart the cloves, then using the flat side of a large knife, gently hit the clove with the knife using the palm of your hand. This will crush the clove and break loose the skin around it. The skin peels easily off.

Ingredients:

• 2 Tablespoons olive oil
• 2 Pounds green beans, rinsed and ends trimmed
• 1/3 Cup Garlic, minced
• 1/4 Cup dry white wine
• 1/4 cup lime juice
• Salt and fresh-ground pepper

Preparation:

Pour olive oil into a 12-inch frying pan over medium-high heat. Add green beans and stir often until tender-crisp and lightly browned, about 10 to 12 minutes. Add garlic and stir just until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add wine, lime juice, and salt and pepper to taste; stir until liquid boils about 1 minute. Serve hot.
Serves 8 -10.

New angelic model Doutzen Kroes sported a skimpy G-string bottoms covered only by a see-through chiffon cape, which billowed during the girls' trip down the runway and left them a little exposed.

Also on stage was Grammy award winning crooner Usher who enlivened the show with a performance of Yeah!

Rivaling the arrival of Santa Clause himself was Heidi Klum who closed the show in a show stopping giant red bow costume.

Wearing a very brief, sexy red thong, red bra adorned with Swarovski crystals and a massive shimmering red sequins bow, Klum lead the 34 supermodels on stage for the final bow.

Thirty-five supermodels participated in this year show including international supermodels Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima, to newer addition Kershaw who made headlines earlier this year when she fainted while exiting the runway at Alexander McQueen Paris show after being squeezed into a very tight corset.

The Victoria's Secret models were popping up all over Miami last week from the beach were the posed for a group shot in white bikinis, to sail boats and, of course, locations within the newly renovated Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel which hosted the show.

Celebrities were also in Miami to catch the show.

Spotted on the beach in a red pattern bikini was actress and model Chloe Sevigny.

Also spotted on the beach was Kim Kardashian in black bikini halter-top embellished by gold studs and a wrap tied around her famous booty.

Peanut Butter Cookies recipe

These Peanut Butter Cookies are especially tasty by adding a cup of butterscotch chips or Hershey's Toffee bar crumbled up. I divided the dough and put half a cup of butterscotch chips in one half and half a cup of crumbled Hershey Toffee bar in the other half of the dough

Ingredients:


• 1/2 cup peanut butter
• 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1 egg
• 1/2 tsp. vanilla
• 1-1/4 cups flour
• 1 cup Butterscotch chips or crumbled Hershey Toffee bar

Preparation:

In a large bowl beat peanut butter and butter with electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Beat until combined. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Beat in flour. Cover and refrigerate dough 1 hour .

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Shape dough in 1-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten the cookies by making crisscross marks with fork tines, dipping fork in sugar between flattening each cookie. Bake7 to 10 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Transfer to wire racks. Cool. Makes 3 dozen.

Anyway, in a burst of sustained energy that would put any 20ish or 30ish Hollywood actress to shame, Madonna's Sticky and Sweet Concert Tour burst upon Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Looking more like a fitness model than a singer, Madonna took to the pole in a very streetish outfit - orange boxer shorts, just above the knee black stockings with three white rings, and a black sleeveless zippered vest.

With hair flying, Madonna took a fling around the pole mounted on a moveable dj booth on stage.

She really got her into her groove to the beat of Into The Groove, vigorously skipping rope and playing double dutch in a routine that would give any aerobics dancer a vigorous cardiovascular workout.

Joining Madonna on stage was Justine Timberlake who performed a duet to the tune of 4 Minutes.

Also appearing with Madonna on stage was Britney Spears.

My mother always told me to keep my cap on.

But of course, being a wild, sexy child, I loved to throw my curly locks to the wind.

A sexy hairdo should be seen and not buried under a cap.

Yes, this was the style I choose, until one day I received a very sexy angolia cap as a present.

Well, I thought - just throw it in the back of the closet.

Humm, but it was snowing outside and a bunch of my friends seemed to be having a great time in the snow.

Of well, maybe I should try on this sexy angolia cap, after all, it was cold outside and besides, I wasn't putting on a fashion show at the mall.

Well, after about an hour and a half later, I was wet and covered in snow.

Time to head in for a nice hot chocolate drink.

Humm, I notice when I remover the angolia cap, that my ears weren't frozen as usual.

You know, those frozen ear tops that sting and burn as they unfreeze.

I also observe that those freezer burn on my forehead from the freezing winter wind wasn't there.

In fact, my face wasn't frozen like usual.

Maybe mother was right, - isn't she always - 70% of your body heat passes through your head so wear a cap and you will stay warm.

Anyway, since that day I have become a cap convert.

Actually caps are sexy, and they make great eye covers when your boy friend pisses you off.
