Viennese Pastry Recipe:
Ingredients:
Pastry:
• 1 C Unsalted butter
• 1/3 C Sugar
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 Egg
• 2 1/2 C Flour, sifted
Filling:
• 5 Egg whites
• 9 oz. Sliced almonds
• 1 1/2 C sugar
• 3 T Flour
• 1 T Light corn syrup
• 1 tsp. Cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp. Almond extract
• 1/4 tsp. Baking powder
Preparation:
Combine all of the ingredients listed, except Almond extract and baking powder in a 2.5 quart saucepan. Put on very low heat and stir constantly until mixture reaches 200 degrees. Remove from heat and stir in extract and baking powder. Pour over crust, spreading evenly. Preheat oven at 350 degrees , and bake until golden brown. Cool in pan on a rack.
Cut cooled pastry into 1 1/2 inch squares, then cut each diagonally. Dip edges of each triangle into Chocolate.
Chocolate Filling:
• 2 tbsp. solid vegetable shortening
• 4 Oz. semi-sweet chocolate
