Ham & Cheese Turnovers

Turnovers are small pocketed pastry that are baked or fried. They can be stuffed with all kinds of fillings from sweet ingredients to savory meats and cheeses. This Ham and Cheese turnover recipe requires baking, This kids favorite recipe provides a good source of calcium and protein, plus there is a small serving of vegetables,which kids will not notice. It is easy to prepare with the instant refrigerated pizza dough.

Ingredients:

• 1-1/4 Cups chopped sliced cooked ham or turkey breast
• 1 Cup small broccoli florets
• 3/4 Cup shredded cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
• 1 10-ounce package refrigerated pizza dough
• 1 Tablespoon milk

Preparation:

Filing: in a medium bowl combine ham, broccoli, and cheese; toss together. Line a baking sheet with lightly greased foil.

Unroll pizza dough on a floured surface. Roll dough into a 12-inch square. Using a sharp knife, cut into nine 4-inch squares. Spoon 1/3 cup filling onto each of the squares. Moisten edges of dough with water. Fold dough over filling. Press edges of dough with a fork to seal. Prick holes on the top of each turnover to allow steam to escape. Place turnovers on baking sheet. Brush with milk. Bake at 400 degrees for until golden, about 15 minutes. Makes 9 turnovers.
